2004 Pescadero-Butano Watershed Assessment (8.64MB PDF)
This assessment was completed by Environmental Science Associates for the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.  The Pescadero-Butano Watershed Assessment was undertaken to assess current habitat conditions for Coho salmon and Steelhead trout in the watershed, and to identify factors limiting the quality and extent of salmonid habitat. The overall goal of the project is to develop a scientific basis for future management plans and actions related to restoration of the watershed and the salmonid fishery. The assessment was done in conjunction with agricultural demonstration projects developed by the San Mateo County Farm Bureau, as part of the Sanctuary’s Agriculture and Rural Lands Plan. Coastal Watershed Council conducted water quality monitoring with a team of volunteers. This assessment was managed by the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and funded by a 319(h) grant from the State Water Resources Control Board.

2004 Upper Pajaro River Sediment Assessment (54MB PDF)
The Pajaro River Watershed is one of the largest riverine systems entering the Monterey Bay and drains an area of approximately 1,300 square miles of land on the Central Coast of California. The Upper Pajaro River Sediment Assessment was developed for the 202 square miles of the upper northeastern portions of the watershed. The assessment characterizes erosion and sedimentation dynamics in Llagas and Uvas Creeks, including an evaluation of sediment conditions, erosion risk, and potential impacts to beneficial uses with the watershed. The assessment was done in conjunction with landowner outreach by the Santa Clara County Farm Bureau, as part of the Sanctuary’s Agriculture and Rural Lands Plan. This assessment was managed by the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and funded by a grant from the State Water Resources Control Board.

2001 Nitrate Management Survey Results Report (6.31MB PDF)
In May 2001, the Monterey County Water Resources Agency (MCWRA) released the Nitrate Management Survey to 314 Salinas  Valley farm owners and/or growers.  The respondents answered questions that outlined five categories of nitrogen fertilizer use  and on-farm nitrate management.  Over one-third, or 107 of the farm owners and/or growers returned the survey representing  almost half of the irrigated acres in the entire Salinas Valley.  The high response of this voluntary survey showed a commitment to,  an interest in, and a concern for the management of nitrate in the Salinas Valley.

2001 Nitrate Management Survey Results Report Interpretation (25K PDF)
This is an interpretation summary for the 2001 Nitrate Management Survey Results Report, Salinas Valley, California - August  2002.  The “represented acreage” is the sum of acres managed, operated, or otherwise associated with the respondents who  answered affirmatively to each question where 100% is equal to 98,858 acres.  Each category of the survey is examined and a  baseline interpretation of responses for nitrate management practices is discussed accordingly.
